PYD kicked off season 20 with an all dancer and parent meeting on September 8th. It was a great afternoon getting to know all of the wonderful families and dancers that are a part of this year’s PYD Companies & Crew!
All three branches have begun working on choreography for their 2018-19 season. Crew began their season learning about the culture and rich history of Hip Hop with Artistic Director, Allie James. They are currently working on a new piece with Community Programming Director, Elizabeth Lau. Company 2 is working with Director, Kate Marchessault on a collaborative generated by improvisation and partner work. The dancers are also beginning to work on student choreography and are looking forward to beginning their next piece with Emily Dunuwila in late October. Company dancers have been very busy starting works with Nick Neagle and PYD alumnus, Zack Betty of NSquared Dance, and with Julie Wilkes. Both works will be completed in October. Jennifer Bourgeault of Collective Motion set a fun, and energetic jazz piece to Johnny B. Good and Lynn Peterson of SYREN Modern Dance restaged, Matryoshka, by Kate St. Amand, on PYD dancers. It is a challenging and engaging modern work themed around Russian nesting dolls.
